08:40 - 09:00 Reducing Risk Through Supply Chain Resilience
As supply chains have become more global
and complex, inventories become leaner and
customer expectations continue to rise, chemical
manufacturers must improve their resilience in order
to thrive. Resilience is the ability of a supply chain to
both resist disruptions and recover after disruptions
occur. Join Debra van Holst of NOVA Chemicals as
she shares her thoughts and strategies around how
to improve supply chain resilience and reduce risk to
the enterprise.
Debra van Holst, Director of Logistics, NOVA Chemicals
09:00 - 09:20 Keynote: The Changing Landscape Of Transportation
09:20 - 09:50 Panel Session: Strategic Sourcing: Reducing Risk With Your Supply Base And Delivering Savings That Enable Competitive Advantage
David Panzera, Strategic Sourcing Manager, Arkema
Ephraim Rabin, CEO, Parchem Fine & Specialty Chemicals
How do you ensure that your suppliers are resilient? Do they have multiple production facilities capable of producing the material if one plant is disrupted? Are their plants geographically spread out to minimize the danger posed by natural disasters? When you’re
relying on a sole source supplier or multiple suppliers that use a single transportation route, how much material should be held as safety stock? These are some of the questions that strategic sourcing managers are grappling with as they attempt to minimize risk. Join this engaging panel discussion so you can adopt strategies that mitigate risk. Panelists will also address how you can monitor and manage supplier performance, systematically reviewing quality and cost.

10:10 - 10:40 Panel: Collaborating With Maintenance Around Planned Outages: Ensuring You Have The Necessary Inventory And Production Capacity To Endure Downtime
Diana Gilliam, Americas Process Excellence Leader - Logistics, Celanese
William Duty, Director, Supply Chain Center of Excellence, Momentive
How can you best engage with plant maintenance groups around outages? A key aspect of supply chain risk management is ensuring you have the inventory levels – or production capabilities at other locations – to hold you over during an outage, which is especially difficult given the limitations of forecasting. Learn how some of today’s top companies are managing this process and making their supply planner the conduit between maintenance and the business.

12:20 - 13:20 Luncheon For All Attendees/LogiChem Advisory Board Meeting
13:20 - 13:50 Panel: Adapting To A Changing Environment: How Is The Capacity Squeeze Affecting The Way You Do Business?
Thomas Brossart, Director, Global Supply Chain Logistics & Trade Compliance, W.R. Grace & Co.
Marty Lembach, Manager, Global Corporate Logistics, Emerald Materials
As the polar vortex slowed railroads for weeks, chemical companies turned their attention to trucking to fill the void. Spot market rates surged by as much as 20 percent. Bulk shippers of liquid chemicals were in a position to profit. While this was a seasonal event, it highlighted the capacity squeeze in the North American freight system. Shortages of railcars and trucks drivers are making it difficult for chemical manufacturers to service their customers. Since the vast majority of trucks are secured well ahead of time, companies that are bidding for emergency capacity – via forums where trucks advertise their availability and receive bids from needy shippers – are in a no win situation. The HOS regulations have also reduced trucking industry capacity (projected 2-5 percent reduction in driver capacity), driving prices up and reducing the flexibility of carriers. Chemical manufacturers have to adapt to this changing environment and secure the best rates
possible for the movement of product.

13:50 - 14:10 Tightening Collaboration With Quality To Reduce Off Spec Product
How can you create a solid link between supply chain and quality and manufacturing plants? There is a need to reduce returns from customers through better inspection and first pass quality. All of this is being done in the interest of reducing working capital costs. Learn how Arkema has approached this process and strengthened the partnership between supply chain and quality.
14:10 - 14:40 Panel Session: Risk Management With 3PLs
Herman Campbell, Manager, Warehouse Operations, Bayer MaterialScience
Robert Bestercy, Senior Manager, North America Logistics, SABIC
How can you establish a long lasting, mutually beneficial partnership with a 3PL? What must be communicated at the outset and how are both parties held accountable? This panel will address:
• Establishing operational procedures upfront
• Key factors in deciding which 3PL to partner with: Culture fit, solutions, metrics
• Establishing top-down support: Ensuring goals and expectations are communicated down to the operational and facility level
• Creating a true partnership that strives for continuous improvement
